The number also includes 3,868 electric vehicles that were sold in the domestic market as well as exported to other markets. Tata EVs recorded a YoY growth of 64.2 per cent as compared to the 2,355 units in December 2021. The growth can be accredited primarily to the Tiago EV which was launched late last year as India’s most affordable electric car.

Apart from the Tiago EV, Tata Motors launched two other EVs in the country last year, i.e. the updated Tigor EV as well as the Tata Nexon EV Max i.e. the long-range version of the e-SUV. The Tata Nexon EV is currently the top-selling electric car in India, with no direct rivals so far. However, the arrival of Mahindra XUV400 this month would change that.
Apart from the Nexon EV, Tigor EV and Tiago EV, the company’s portfolio also consists of cars like Punch, Altroz, Tiago (ICE), Tigor (ICE), Nexon, Harrier and Safari. The Tiago and Tigor can both also be opted with an optional factory-fit CNG kit. The Tiago petrol is currently the company’s most affordable car in the Indian market, with prices starting from Rs 5.45 lakh (ex-showroom).
