Kerala govt vs governor: HC disposes BJP president’s plea against protest | Kochi News

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Tuesday disposed of the petition filed by BJP state president K Surendran alleging that the state government is forcing its employees to participate in the protest march to the Governor’s residence on Tuesday.
Considering the petition (WP-C No. 36503/22) during admission hearing, a division bench comprising chief justice S Manikumar and justice Shaji P Chaly asked whether there was any evidence that government employees are being forced to participate in the protest. However, the petitioner’s counsel could not produce any such evidence. The court then directed the chief secretary to consider the representation filed by the petitioner.
It was alleged in the plea that the CPM-led ruling front has been conducting a mass campaign to make people participate in the protest and that strict directions have been issued to the service organizations affiliated to the front to make their members participate in the protest.
Beneficiaries of the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Act have also been asked to participate in the protest, the petitioner had alleged while stating that the protest is aimed at pressurizing the Governor to accept the government’s proposals.
